8 Things Every Granddaughter Should Hear From Her Grandmother

💕 8 Things Every Granddaughter Should Hear From Her Grandmother

There is something special about the relationship between a grandmother and her granddaughter.

Grandmothers get to love differently.

They've already survived raising their own children. They've learned which things actually matter—and which things absolutely do not.

They know that eventually the spilled milk gets cleaned up.

The terrible haircut grows back.

The broken heart heals.

And that questionable boyfriend?

Well...

Grandma knew. Grandma always knew. 😂

But underneath the advice, stories, cookies and occasional opinions nobody technically asked for is something every granddaughter deserves to know:

There is someone in her corner who has loved her from the very beginning.

Here are eight things every granddaughter should hear from her grandmother at least once.

1. “You Never Have to Be Perfect for Me to Be Proud of You.”

Girls grow up surrounded by messages telling them who they're supposed to be.

Prettier.

Smarter.

More successful.

More confident.

More everything.

Grandma can be the person who reminds her:

You don't have to earn my love.

Celebrate her accomplishments, absolutely.

But celebrate her even more.

Tell her you're proud of the woman she's becoming—not because of her grades, job, appearance or achievements, but because of her heart.

2. “You Are Stronger Than You Think.”

There will be days when she doesn't feel strong.

There will be heartbreaks you can't prevent.

Mistakes you can't fix for her.

And moments when every grandmotherly instinct in your body wants to march in and straighten the whole situation out yourself.

Which, for the record, Grandma probably could. 😂

But sometimes loving her means reminding her that she can handle it.

Tell her:

“I've watched you become stronger your entire life. Trust yourself.”

She may need those words someday when you're not standing beside her.

3. “Never Make Yourself Smaller to Make Someone Else Comfortable.”

This one matters.

Teach your granddaughter that kindness and confidence can exist together.

She can be loving without being a pushover.

Generous without being taken advantage of.

Strong without apologizing for it.

She doesn't need to dim herself so someone else can shine.

There is room for her too.

4. “You Can Always Come Home.”

Maybe not literally.

Although let's be honest—Grandma probably has food. 😂

What this really means is:

You always have a safe place with me.

You can tell me you messed up.

You can tell me you're scared.

You can tell me something you think I won't understand.

You can call.

You can cry.

You can sit quietly at my kitchen table and say absolutely nothing.

You're still mine.

That's an incredible gift to give someone.

5. “Choose Someone Who Is Kind to You.”

Grandmothers have lived long enough to know that charm is nice.

Looks are nice.

Big romantic gestures are nice.

But watch how someone treats you when they're tired.

Watch how they speak to you when they're frustrated.

Watch whether they celebrate your success or compete with it.

Watch whether you feel safe being completely yourself around them.

And if Grandma doesn't like him...

Well, maybe hear the woman out. 😂❤️

She's been around a minute.

6. “Don't Be Afraid to Start Over.”

A granddaughter may change careers.

End a relationship.

Move somewhere new.

Lose something she thought she'd have forever.

Change her mind.

Start again.

None of those things mean she failed.

Sometimes starting over is one of the bravest decisions a person makes.

Remind her:

You are allowed to build a different life when the old one no longer fits.

7. “Please Remember Where You Came From.”

Tell her the family stories.

Tell her about her mother or father when they were little.

Tell her what her great-grandparents were like.

Tell her the funny stories.

Tell her the hard ones too.

Show her photographs.

Write things down.

Because one day she may realize she wants to ask you a thousand questions she never thought to ask when she was younger.

Give her those stories while you can.

They're part of her.

8. “No Matter How Old You Get, You Will Always Be My Girl.”

She could be 7.

Or 57.

Grandma does not care. 😂

She's still going to ask whether you're eating enough.

She's still going to worry about you driving home.

She's still going to think you need a sweater.

And she will probably still attempt to feed you within approximately 90 seconds of entering her house.

Some things don't change.

And maybe they shouldn't.

Because underneath all of that is the message:

“You are still someone I want to take care of.”

❤️ Give Her the Words While You Can

We often assume the people we love know how we feel.

They probably do.

But there's something powerful about actually saying it.

Write your granddaughter a letter.

Put a note inside a journal.

Engrave a few words on a bracelet.

Give her a necklace with a message she'll keep.

Or sit beside her and simply tell her.

Because someday, she may forget the birthday present Grandma bought her.

She may forget what you served for dinner.

She might even forget some of the advice she rolled her eyes at.

But she'll remember how safe she felt with you.

She'll remember that you believed in her.

She'll remember that you were proud of her.

And she'll remember knowing, without question:

Grandma always had my back. ❤️
